Dr. David Kavinje Chikati Appointed as Dean, School of Education
Taita Taveta University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. David Kavinje Chikati as the Dean, School of Education.
Dr. Chikati is an accomplished higher education leader, researcher, and administrator with over a decade of experience in university teaching, academic leadership, postgraduate supervision, curriculum development, and digital learning. He holds a PhD in Education (Education Foundations) from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Education in Foundations, and a Bachelor of Education (Science) degree, both from Egerton University.
Prior to his appointment, Dr. Chikati served as Director of the Directorate of Open, Distance and E-Learning (ODEL) at Taita Taveta University, where he successfully expanded the University’s Learning Management System and championed digital transformation initiatives. He has also served in various leadership capacities, including Chairman of the Department of Education and Departmental Examination Officer in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Physical Sciences.
Dr. Chikati has a strong research background with numerous peer-reviewed publications focusing on the history of education, special needs education, and digital pedagogy. He has participated in and attracted several funded research and development projects, including the EU-funded UPLIFT-Ag project, among others.
He has been instrumental in building capacity among academic staff on digital learning and pedagogy, having led multiple training workshops at TTU and collaborated with international partners such as DAAD and the Open University of Zimbabwe.
In his vision for the School of Education, Dr. Chikati seeks to drive a transformative agenda anchored on academic excellence, research and innovation, resource mobilization, and community engagement. His strategic plan focuses on expanding multidisciplinary programs, strengthening postgraduate supervision, commercializing research outputs, and deepening partnerships that link academia, industry, and community—preparing graduates as innovators and job creators.
