History of the department

The Health Unit department was started at the opening of the Campus as one roomed department. It was later shifted east of the administration a building which currently serves as the Estate department. During this time the department had one staff, a Clinical Officer who worked during the day and on call at night. All diseases were treated clinically because we did not have a medical laboratory then and for those diagnosis which needed laboratory investigation were sent to the District Hospital. It was until September that we received a Laboratory Technologist but due to lack of laboratory equipments the laboratory became operational the following month. On October 2009 the department received two more staffs (a Clinical Officer and a Nurse). At this point the department became operational 24hrs a day, 7 days a week. It has the following sub departments; records, pharmacy, outpatient consultation room, laboratory, drug store, treatment room, one male and one female observation rooms, wash room, and staffs office. In September 2013, a Medical Officer was hired and currently heads the department. Other Staffs were later recruited- Pharmaceutical Technologist, Records Officer, Nurse and Cleaner/ messenger. Apart from the permanent Staffs, we have Clinical Officers and Nurses on low cum basis.
