
The Taita Taveta University Management Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr.-Ing. Nashon Adero as the Dean, School of Mines and Engineering.
Dr.-Ing. Nashon Adero brings a wealth of experience in Mining and Engineering Surveys, GIS-Based multicriteria spatial decision support systems (MCSDSS), and geodata-driven System Dynamics. He received his degrees in Surveying (BSc, UoN, Kenya), Resources Engineering (MSc.Res.Eng, Karlsruhe, Germany) and Mining Engineering (Doctorate in Engineering, Dr.-Ing., Freiberg, Germany).
He is internationally exposed and has acquired extensive tailored training, namely in good governance and social entrepreneurship, policy research and analysis, mentorship, and managing teamwork, among others. With over 15 years of experience across the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors, Dr.-Ing. Aderoโs leadership is widely recognized. He has previously held positions as a tunnel engineering surveyor (Sondu-Miriu Hydropower Project), Policy Analyst (KIPPRA), and GIS Business Development Manager (Oakar Services Ltd).
He is the developer of the ๐๐๐ข๐ญ๐-๐๐๐ฏ๐๐ญ๐ ๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ ๐ซ๐๐ญ๐๐ ๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ฅ๐๐ง๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐จdel (๐๐๐๐๐), Africaโs first scalable prototype of a mine planning model that integrates geospatial modelling into System Dynamics for decision support at a regional, strategic and multisector scale. A trained policy analyst and thought leader, he has edited and co-authored various books and articles, including Project Design for Geomatics Engineers and Surveyors (Taylor & Francis/CRC Press, 2023) and The Future of Africa in the Post-CODID-19 World (2021).
Dr.-Ing. Adero has membership in various professional bodies, e.g., the International Society for Mine Surveying (ISM), System Dynamics Society, Elsevier Researcher Academy (Reviewer), the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK), FORCE 11, DAAD Scholars, German Alumni Water Network (GAWN), and the Executive Board of the Kenya Chamber of Mines (KCM) as the national representative of professionals and academia. He volunteers as a youth mentor for the FIG Mentoring Programme for and through his self-founded Impact Borderless Digital (IBD) youth mentorship programme (https://impactborderlessdigital.com/) and FIG Mentoring Programme for Africa.
Dr.-Ing. Adero has won several international awards, emerging as Wi๐ง๐ง๐๐ซ, ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐๐ญ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง for African lecturers on solving youth unemployment (โUniversity of Ideasโ) and receiving the ๐๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐๐ข๐๐ก๐ฆ๐จ๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ก๐จ๐ฅ๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ฉ award of a full license for STELLA Professional software, for applying System Dynamics to modelling water-level changes in L. Victoria, East Africa. He has also been feted by Enactus Kenya as ๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ง๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ง๐๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐
๐๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ฏ๐ข๐ฌ๐จ๐ซ for leading TTU students to national stardom as winners of the 2022 National BIC Education Challenge and by Esri as a GIS Champion/Ambassador.
His hobby in modelling with impressive predictive validity has been demonstrated in the various ๐ฉ๐ซ๐๐๐ข๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐ฆ๐จ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฌ he has developed, e.g., for COVID-19 spread across 32 country case studies, for the ๐

๐ ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ฅ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฉ ๐๐๐๐ and ๐๐๐๐, for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN ) matches, among other models of interesting contests.
