JAPAN EMBASSY VISIT

Today, 26th February 2025, H.E. Mr. Hiroshi Matsuura, Ambassador of Japan received a courtesy call by H.E. Dr. Andrew Mwadime, Governor of Taita Taveta County and Prof. Fred Simiyu Barasa, Vice Chancellor, Taita Taveta University . They had a fruitful discussions on further cooperation including education, water, mining, agriculture and health sectors. The Governor expressed his gratitude for Japan’s economic cooperation with the County in the water sector and education, and they had a fruitful exchange of views on future cooperation. The Ambassador thanked the University for its support during in GGP assistance activities in the county and promised to initiate joint collaborations projects between Japanese Universities and TTU towards promoting STEM programmes and technology transfer through staff and student exchange with linkage to Japan industry for Technology transfer. He also recognized the vibrant science teacher education programme at TTU and looks forward to support the University towards increasing the number of STEM teachers for secondary schools and youth joining STEM Careers in Kenya. The ambassador was also excited about the special niche of programmes at Taita Taveta University from Mining,GIS, Natural Resources, Tourism development and Management during his discussions with the Vice Chancellor, Taita Taveta University. The Ambassador looks forward to visit the county soon again to explore the unlimited potential at the University and the County towards furthering the cooperation in the coming weeks in areas of strategic partnership with the People of Japan and their institutions. He recognized some of the prominent staff in the University that have previously studied in Japan and looks forward to explore further collaboration in areas of mutual interest for the institution and county. As part of cultural exchange the Ambassador promised to work with the University towards teaching of Japanese language by seconding tutors through the Embassy. The County government in collaboration with the experts in the University will develop strategies for collaborating with the People of Japan and Government to find solutions to challenges facing the community. Key sectors to be strengthen include water, education, mining, tourism and agriculture and a joint steering committee will be formed to explore these opportunities for mutual benefit.
