Vice Chancellor Host Delegation from Kenya National Shipping Line Ltd

Today, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Fred Simiyu Barasa, hosted a delegation from the Kenya National Shipping Line Ltd. led by LTG (Rtd) Levi Franklin Mghalu, Board Chairman, and Mr. Abdallah Hatim, Managing Director.

The team deliberated on key areas of partnership, including the promotion of student attachments, internships, and job opportunities—particularly for students pursuing a Bachelor of Maritime and Shipping Management.

“Taita Taveta University offers a unique opportunity for students undertaking a Bachelor of Maritime and Shipping Management, as it is the only university in Kenya that has placed strong emphasis on industry needs,” said Mr. Abdallah Hatim, Managing Director of KNSL.

The two parties agreed to develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a structured framework for collaboration and mutual benefit.

This collaboration is expected to significantly enhance students’ practical skills and employability by providing real-world exposure and hands-on industry experience. It also underscores the University’s commitment to aligning academic programmes with industry demands, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to contribute effectively to the maritime and shipping sector both locally and internationally.
