Taita Taveta University (TTU) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Fred Simiyu, last evening hosted a high-profile dinner for first-year students who joined the University in the 2025/2026 academic year at the iconic Voi Wildlife Lodge—an experience that blended academic pride, tourism, and global exposure in a truly unforgettable welcome.

The exclusive dinner brought together students who were advised to apply to TTU and ultimately selected the University as their first choice during the KUCCPS placement process. Designed as a premium orientation experience, the event exposed students to the lifestyle, service excellence, and global outlook associated with five-star hospitality within Voi’s renowned tourism circuit.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Tsavo ecosystem, the evening offered students more than fine dining. They immersed themselves in a serene and tranquil environment, interacted with international tourists, and experienced firsthand the unique advantage of studying at a university strategically located within one of the world’s most celebrated wildlife destinations. From networking with global visitors to capturing memorable moments through photography, the students received true VVIP treatment throughout the evening.

Addressing the students, Prof. Simiyu challenged them to become proud ambassadors of Taita Taveta University. He urged them to leverage their networks to attract more students to TTU, particularly at a time when the 2025 KCSE results have been released and prospective students are making crucial university choices. He emphasized that TTU offers world-class training, industry-relevant programmes, and an unmatched learning environment anchored within the Tsavo ecosystem.
“This is not just about dinner; it is about vision, exposure, and opportunity,” the Vice-Chancellor noted, reaffirming TTU’s commitment to holistic education that combines academic excellence with real-world experiences.

The highlight of the evening was a rare wildlife encounter, as students witnessed elephants at close range—an awe-inspiring reminder that Tsavo, home to the famous Big Five, is not just a tourist destination but part of TTU’s extended learning environment.

The experience left a lasting impression on the students, inspiring them to work hard, aim higher, and fully embrace the unique opportunities that come with being part of Taita Taveta University. For many, the evening marked not just the beginning of their university journey, but the start of a transformative academic and life experience—only at TTU.
