Department Background
The HOD Security is in charge of all security and safety services in the entire University and is the Officer responsible for these services.
- The department falls directly under the VC's office and is committed to offer the best services to ensure the safety and security of all TTU stakeholders especially staff and students and their property while in Campus.
- It has four Main Sections - Guard force, Janitors, Caretakers and the Administration Police Service (APS) wing seconded to handle violent extremism.
Mandate and Key Functions
The department is mainly tasked with the:
- Protection of University resources
- Investigation of reported crime, accidents and incidents
- Provision of liaison services including from the state law enforcement agencies – Kenya Police, Administration Police, Kenya Wildlife; Private Security firms such as - G4S, Welsfargo, KK and the local community policing clusters; Emergency Aid/Safety Providers and trainers – Fire Brigade, Ambulance Services, Red Cross etc.
- Handling of students' emergencies, safety and security in the students Halls of residence especially at night.
- Safe custody and movement of University keys.
- Development, administration and evaluation of all TTU security and safety policies and procedures.
Applicable Laws & Policies
To enable the department carry out its mandate more effectively, all stakeholders are expected to acquaint themselves with:
- The 2010 Kenyan Constitution
- The Penal Code Cap 63 Laws of Kenya
- The Universities Act 2012 & its amendment of 2016
- Taita Taveta University Charter and the Security Department Service Charter
- Taita Taveta University Statutes specially Schedule IX (Document A) on students Discipline and Conduct
- TTU Security and Safety Policy and its Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) SECURITY
Reporting of Incidents/Accidents
The department operates a manned 24hr/7days a week Reports/Information Desk at the Main Security office located at Runda 1st Drive Block D1. All university stakeholders especially Staff and students are highly encouraged to share or report all security related information and emergencies at the Security Office or to any of the available uniformed security staff in Campus.
Additionally, they can share or report emergencies and any information on human wildlife related conflicts, fire hazard and such related issues around Voi through:

Round-the-Clock Service
