What We Do
The Informatics and Computing Department aims at producing top notch scholars and practitioners to offer competitive leadership in all aspects of Informatics and Communication Technology and Geo-informatics for the national and international marketplace. We cultivate positive attitude towards computing and its dynamics in a view to produce graduates capable of adapting to the dynamic trends of global markets while upholding the Taita Taveta University's core values, embraced within our academic programs.

Profile Summary
Prof. Godfrey Ouma Makokha is an academic, researcher, and geospatial scientist with extensive experience in geoinformatics, environmental management, and data analytics. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Atmospheric Physics from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, a Master of Science in Geospatial Information Systems and Remote Sensing from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, and a Bachelor of Science in Geomatic Engineering and Geospatial Information Systems from the same institution.
Prof. Makokha currently serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Informatics and Computing at Taita Taveta University under the School of Science and Informatics. He has also served as the Director of the Directorate of Open, Distance and E-Learning (ODeL) at the university.
He has over 10–15 years of academic and professional experience in teaching, research, mentorship, and project implementation. His expertise focuses on geospatial technologies, remote sensing, GIS, environmental planning, climate science, and water resource management. Through his work, he provides technical expertise in analyzing environmental and climate-related data and supporting evidence-based environmental decision-making.
Before joining Taita Taveta University, Prof. Makokha served in several academic positions at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, where he worked as a Teaching Assistant, Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer, and later Coordinator for Master's and PhD programmes in geospatial and geomatics-related fields.
