Welcome to TAITAGIS Project

The Success Story of a GIS Training Hub at Taita Taveta University

The TAITAGIS project is a bilateral cooperation between Kenya (Taita Taveta University) and Finland (University of Helsinki). Young and progressive, Taita Taveta University (TTU) is the premier university of mining in Kenya. It also offers a diversity of courses on technology, environmental and social sciences, agriculture, and applied resource management.

TTU got chartered as a fully-fledged public university in 2016 after ten years of existence as a branch of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). Located in Kenya’s coastal mineral belt and the vast Tsavo conservation area, TTU commands a natural comparative advantage that supports real-world applications of GIS to decision-support on competing and conflicting resource planning and management imperatives.
