USA AMBASADOR KYLE McCARTER VISIT TO TTU

The United State ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Kyle McCarter, spent the day at Taita Taveta University, exploring the many links between the University and International partners and meeting the staff and students from the School of Mining and Engineering.

The Ambassador started by paying a courtesy call to the Chairman of Council Dr.Morompi Oleronkei and the Vice Chancellor Prof. Fred Simiyu at the Vice Chancellor’s office. The Vice Chancellor briefed the ambassador of the journey that TTU has made to where its stand at present.

The team made a tour at the University engineering workshops, laboratories and the mining center under construction to get acquainted of the TTU progressive development.

The ambassador later had a luncheon with the Council Chairman, Vice-Chancellor, staff and students of School of Mining and Engineering at the University boardroom. The lively open discussion gave both the staff and students a platform to interact with the ambassador of various issues in relation to academic advancement that TTU can explore with USA Universities.

The students entreated for the ambassador support in creating linkage with the America Universities is created in order for them to be able to further their studies abroad. The emphasis was on academic exchange; what they hope to gain from their study there, and how they plan to use their new skills to transform Kenya.

The Ambassador said that many African countries are experiencing a period of unprecedented political and economic change and if the programme is successfully implemented; in return, the students will play an important role in shaping the development of the country.

“However, this is definitely not a one-way street – the students bring valuable work and life experience which enhances the learning of all our students, and helps make the University a truly global community.” Said H.E. Kyle McCarter.

Taita Taveta University Chairman of Council Dr.Morompi Oleronkei commended the partnership between the US Government and TTU through the establishment of collaboration with US Universities. Dr.Morompi added that the University is in the process of establishing a strong collaboration with the University of Colorado, a distinguished University of mining in America.
